At Walnut Grove Christian School, we often see the incredible ways our community steps up to help others, and this week we’re excited to share one such story.
Lisa Higgins, a WGCS parent, recently reached out with an update about a project close to her heart. The Lineville Evangelical Methodist Church, a small mountain church impacted by Hurricane Helene, is finally nearing the end of a long rebuilding process after catastrophic flooding destroyed much of their facility—including their children’s ministry area.
Despite the devastation, God’s hand was clearly evident as irreplaceable items, like a grand piano and stunning stained glass windows depicting the life of Jesus, miraculously survived the flood. As the church prepares to reopen, there’s still work to be done to rebuild their children’s ministry area—and that’s where the WGCS community has stepped in.

Lisa sent a late-night text to her second and third-grade moms’ group, sharing the church’s story and its pressing needs. Within hours, the response was overwhelming:
- Over $1,000 was raised.
- Families donated a rocking chair, table and chairs, books, toys, and art supplies.
- Many more families pledged to contribute additional items in the coming weeks.
This outpouring of generosity speaks to the heart of the Walnut Grove community—a group of people who embody our Four Pillars by putting their faith into action, building relationships, and serving others.
The immediate needs for the Lineville church’s children’s ministry include:
- Christian books for young children
- Toys for nursery through first grade
- Art supplies (construction paper, scissors, craft items)
- A rocking chair
- Tables and chairs for four classrooms
If you feel led to contribute, donations can be dropped off during carpool or sent in with your child. Monetary gifts can be made payable to Lineville EMC or sent via Venmo to Lisa Higgins at Venmo Link (please note “Lineville” in the memo).
We’ll share photos of the final donation and delivery soon, but for now, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude to Lisa, the second and third-grade families, and everyone who has contributed. This is what Life at the Grove is all about—making a difference in the lives of others and sharing God’s love in tangible ways.
