WGCS Athletics: Leveling Up This Summer | Walnut Grove Christian School

By now, you probably know that Walnut Grove Christian School has an exceptional athletics program. In fact, the ratio of students who participate in some type of sport at WGCS is one of the many things that makes our school unique.

What you might not realize is that our commitment to athletics doesn’t happen only during the school year. Today, we’d like to share the story of a few ways our athletics department has been striving for more this summer.

Sports Teams

Several of our sports teams participated in summer conditioning, trainings, camps, showcases and summer tournaments. For example, our basketball team participated in the USC Lamont Paris Basketball Camp back in June. They also grew in their connection together by attending the UNCC Basketball Team Camp. And they were a part of the Phenom Hoops Showcase.

Another example would be our volleyball team, which held camps throughout various weeks in June and July. There were other camps for middle school students and high school athletes.

Our sports teams are committed to leveraging the down time throughout the summer weeks for continuous improvement.

Coaches

It’s not just the student-athletes who are improving their skills over the summer. Our coaches are taking advantage of the time to level up as well. Just this past weekend, our volleyball coaches went to a Gold Medal Squared conference for coaching training. The Gold Medal Squared leaders have trained the most elite national athletes for volleyball, including the gold-medal Olympic team.

Facilities

Beyond clinics and training, WGCS has made an investment in our student athletes this summer by adding a strength training building next to the playground. The building contains a weight rack, dumb bells, resistance bands, and polymetrix jump boxes for our athletes and coaches to use in their training.

Uniforms

Several sports teams, including soccer, volleyball, and cross country will be receiving new uniforms that were ordered this summer. WGCS is committed to making sure our student-athletes not only play sharp, but also look sharp.

Website

Finally, we’ve been working hard over the summer building a new athletics website: wgcsathletics.com. The new site is designed to keep you better updated on all things related to athletics, allow you to register for sports and submit required documents, purchase tickets, better facilitate coach communication, and keep you updated on the athletics schedule. We’re still adding the finishing touches to the website and coaches are loading in their content, but it’s live for you to begin using TODAY.

As you can see, Walnut Grove’s athletics teams and department administrators have been busy this summer to prepare us for the 2024-2025 to be the best athletics year ever.
